SC stays Calcutta HC proceedings in reserved category certificate case

New Delhi: On Saturday, The Supreme Court has stayed the Calcutta High Court single bench’s order for a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in the issuance of reserved category certificates. The Supreme Court stayed all proceedings before the Calcutta High Court and issued a notice to the Government of West Bengal and the petitioner.

The Supreme Court will hear the case of irregularities related to reserved category certificate on January 29. In a special hearing, a five-judge bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices Sanjiv Khanna, BR Gavai, Suryakant and Anirudh Bose issued notices to the West Bengal government and the original petitioner in the case. It also stayed the orders passed by the single-judge bench and bench in the case.

The bench said, “We will consider this on Monday, we have taken it now to pass this order. We have now taken charge.” The Supreme Court on Saturday heard controversy between the Calcutta High Court’s single-judge bench order and division bench decision in West Bengal’s fake caste certificate matter.

The top court has given general admission to the single plea of ​​the Calcutta High Court on an order which had termed the order of the bench in the matter of certified candidates in hostel admission in the state as “invalid and untenable”. Earlier, a bench of the High Court had stayed the order of single bench inquiry into this case.
