Former India player Shukla Dutta has been appointed as the head coach for the country’s U19 women’s football team in preparation for the upcoming SAFF Championships scheduled for February next year.
Shukla Dutta Appointed Head Coach for India U19 Women’s Football Team. Dutta, who previously coached the India U17 women’s team, will lead an all-women support staff team, assisted by former India international Sradhanjali Samantaray and goalkeeping coach Lourembam Ronibala Chanu.
Preparations for the SAFF Championships will commence early next month in Goa, with the U19 women’s team aiming to perform well in the tournament. “The Under-19 SAFF for women is an important tournament for us. This tournament is a stepping stone for talented players to move to the next level, which is the seniors,” stated All India Football Federation acting secretary-general M Satyanarayan.

Expressing enthusiasm for an all-women technical staff for the U19 women’s team, Satyanarayan highlighted the significance of the coaching team in nurturing young talent. The SAFF Championships have been a platform for India to showcase its prowess, with the team winning the title in 2022 and finishing as runners-up in 2021 to Bangladesh. In the most recent edition, India secured a third-place finish.
Shukla Dutta Head Coach Women’s Football Team. The selection of the support staff was conducted through a virtual meeting chaired by former India captain IM Vijayan. The meeting was attended by Satyanarayan, Manoranjan Bhattacharya (deputy chairman, technical committee), Syed Sabir Pasha (technical director), and other relevant stakeholders.
