Supreme Court Denies Relief to BRS Leader K Kavitha, Urges Trial Court Approach

In a recent development, the Supreme Court has declined to intervene in BRS leader K Kavitha’s petition against her arrest in the Delhi liquor policy case. Instead, the court has directed her to seek relief from the trial court, emphasizing the importance of following a uniform legal procedure.

The decision was made by a special bench comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna, MM Sundresh, and Bela Trivedi, who stressed the necessity for individuals, regardless of their status, to pursue legal recourse through the appropriate channels. The court highlighted that direct appeals to the apex court for bail, solely based on political stature or financial capability, cannot be entertained.

K Kavitha, the daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR), was apprehended by the Enforcement Directorate last week in connection with the alleged liquor policy scam.

This development unfolded amidst heightened attention on the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who also faces charges in the same case. Kejriwal’s detention marks the latest in a series of arrests involving Aam Aadmi Party leaders, including his former deputy Manish Sisodia and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh.

As Mr. Kejriwal prepares to appear before the ED court following his overnight confinement in a probe agency’s lock-up, supporters have mobilized, prompting traffic restrictions and heightened security measures around the AAP office.

This decision underscores the importance of adhering to legal procedures and seeking recourse through the appropriate judicial channels, irrespective of one’s political affiliations or financial means.
