Tamil Nadu: On Saturday, at least ten people died in an explosion at a firecracker factory in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu. Several others were reportedly injured in this incident. The workers who sustained severe burn injuries were rushed to the Sivakasi government hospital.
The rescue operations are under to rescue workers who are afraid to be trapped in the private firecracker unit owned by Vijay. The magnitude of the blast was so huge that four buildings near the cracker factory were destroyed in the blast, according to locals.
The personnel from the Fire department and the fire tender vehicles from the Vembakottai area rushed to the spot where the firecracker factory exploded. The factory, which was destroyed in the blast, was owned by a person named Vijay and was located in the Vembakottai area of the city.
After the incident, police and a team from the fire department rushed to the spot and admitted the injured to a local hospital. According to the police, nine people died on the spot while two succumbed to their injuries while being on their way to the hospital.
The Police said that the preliminary investigation suggested that the accident occurred in the chemical mixing room of the factory. He added that further investigation is underway.
