Telangana assembly election: Komatireddy RajGopal Reddy quits BJP, to join congress again

Hyderabad: Former Munugode MLA Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy has announced his resignation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and soon join the Congress, according to a statement issued by him to the press. He said that the BJP failed to emerge as an alternative to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in Telangana.

In the statement, he said that 15 months ago I resigned from the Munugode MLA post and joined the BJP, believing that the Bharatiya Janata Party has the power to end the corrupt anarchic dictatorial family rule in Telangana. I competed hard as a BJP candidate and gave a tough fight to the ruling party, but lost by a slim margin. Since BJP could not develop as an alternative to the ruling BRS and Congress took that place, I want to work as per the wishes of the people of Telangana.

This comes days after Komatireddy name was not included in the first list of candidates announced by the BJP. Komatireddy quit Congress to join BJP on August 3, 2022. He also said, “No matter which party I am in, the goal is the same. This is to free the state from the corruption, anarchy and undemocratic rule of KCR and his family. I have decided to join Congress in line with the thinking of the people of Telangana who want change of power.”

He added,“I never aspired for positions, I only aspired for the best interests of Telangana. I request the people of the state to support me as I am joining Congress to end the dictatorial KCR regime.” Komatireddy contested successfully for Munugode on the Congress ticket in the 2018 assembly elections.

He contested the high-octane Munugode byelection on the BJP ticket but failed to make any impact as BRS candidate, K Prabhakar Reddy, won the bypolls. In August 2022, Raj Gopal Reddy left the Congress and joined the BJP, leading to a by-election in his constituency Munugodu. In the by-election held in November 2022, he lost the election by a margin of 10,113 votes.
