Telangana: At least 30 monkeys found dead in water tank in Nalgonda district

Telangana: An official said that at least 30 monkeys were found dead in Nalgonda district of Telangana in a drinking water tank. The tanker was being used to supply drinking water to at least 200 families in Hill Colony.

Police said that the bodies of monkeys were found floating in a water tank that is located in ward number 1 of the Nandikonda Municipality. The monkeys may have entered the tanker for water and were trapped inside the tanker and drowned after entering through metal sheets placed on the tank.

Initial investigations revealed that the incident happened due to an oversight as the lid of the water tank was left open, trapping the monkeys inside. The municipal workers took out the dead monkeys from the tank after residents of the area complained to the authorities about the foul smell coming from the tank.

After the incident, a case has been registered and investigation is underway. Former Telangana minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA KT Rama Rao criticised the ruling Congress, saying Revanth Reddy’s government has given priority to politics over public health.

On social media platform x, the BRS leader said, “What a shameful state of affairs in the Telangana Municipal department. Periodical cleaning and routine maintenance, which are standard protocols to be followed, are being neglected.”
