Mumbai: In a disturbing turn of events, a shocking video has gone viral on social media platforms showing a man brutally thrashing a pet dog in Thane district in Maharashtra. The incident reportedly took place at a pet clinic on GB Road in the city. Two people have been arrested in connection with the case, police said. The graphic footage, captured during a grooming session, sent shockwaves through the community and sparked immediate action from local authorities.
In the video, which is doing rounds on internet, two groomers, who was apparently the staffer, Mayur Michael Aadhav, 19, and Prashant Sanjay Gaikwad, 20, of the pet clinic, was seen beating the dog brutally, punching on its face multiple times and then kicking it. Another man who was filming the brutal act also hit the dog. The alleged animal abuse took place at Vetic Pet Clinic, which specialises in grooming and care of pet animals.
After the video emerged on social media, it leads to swift action by the authorities., Nilesh Bhange, an office-bearer of animal rights organisation PAWS, and a few others approached Kasarwadavli police station and a non-cognisable complaint was registered. Police can not conduct probe into a non-cognisable complaint unless there is a magistrate’s order.
“A video was going viral on social media in which two youth were beating a pet dog badly. After the video of the incident went viral, animal lovers demanded strict action against them on social media, after which the two accused were identified,” Bhange said.
Several social media users shared the video and urged pet owners not to leave their pets alone during grooming. A user wrote, “I would rather never travel if I have to leave my cat at some pet care without cameras for supervision. A horrific animal abuse video came to light in my hometown, at the hands of groomers of a popular clinic called Vetic Pet Clinic, and dont leave your pet alone during grooming ever.”

Two Perpetrators arrested and clinic shuts
The two pet clininc staffers, identified as Mayur Michael and Prashant Gaikwad, have been terminated from their positions and arrested by Chitalsar Manpada police. “One of the person was seen beating the dog brutally in the clip while the other recorded the video,” Bhange said. An FIR was registered against the two under section 11 of the Prohibition of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960 ( 1) “The video of the incident was uploaded on social media which was seen by me and subsequently I informed the police and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC),” he added.
