United Left Sweeps JNUSU Polls: Secures Clean Sweep in Central Panel

New Delhi : In a resounding victory, the Left Unity coalition has secured a clean sweep in the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) elections, claiming victory on all four central panel seats. The election, held on March 22, witnessed a historic turnout of 73%, marking the reemergence of a vibrant students’ union after a four-year hiatus.

Historic Milestone: First Dalit President in Three Decades

Dhananjay, representing the All India Students’ Association (AISA), has been elected as the president, marking a significant milestone as he becomes the first Dalit president from the Left since 1996-97. Hailing from Gaya, Bihar, Dhananjay’s victory underscores the rejection of divisive politics and reflects the students’ trust in the Left’s ideology.

Commitment to Student Welfare

In his post-election statement to news agency PTI, President Dhananjay reiterated the union’s commitment to fighting for students’ rights. Top priorities include addressing issues such as women’s safety, fund cuts, scholarship hikes, infrastructural improvements, and water crisis on campus.

Dominance of Left Ideology

Amidst chants of ‘Lal Salaam’ and ‘Jai Bhim’, victorious students celebrated the Left’s dominance in the polls. Flags in red, white, and blue waved proudly, symbolizing the triumph of leftist ideology. Despite initial challenges posed by the ABVP, the Left emerged victorious on all fronts, reaffirming JNU’s status as a stronghold of progressive thought.

Winners Across the Board

The United Left panel, comprising AISA, Democratic Students’ Federation (DSF), Students’ Federation of India (SFI), and the All India Students’ Federation (AISF), saw success across all central panel positions:

Avijit Ghosh from SFI secured the vice-president’s post

Priyanshi Arya from BAPSA, supported by the Left, clinched the general secretary position.
Mohammad Sajid emerged victorious as the joint secretary, representing the Left’s stronghold.
Embracing Unity and Progress

The United Left’s triumph in the JNUSU polls underscores the collective strength of students united under a progressive agenda. As the newly elected representatives prepare to take office, their victory stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of unity and progress within the JNU community.
