UP: 3 Farmers killed after being run over by a car of PWD official in Kanpur

Junior Engineer of PWD posted in Ayodhya had come to Kanpur countryside to leave his family. When he was returning after leaving the family, the driver lost control of the car and crushed three farmers standing on the roadside.

Kanpur: In Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district, on Monday evening, the car of a Public Works Department (PWD) official crushed three farmers. All the three farmers died on the spot. It is being told that the car belonged to the junior engineer of the PWD department posted in Ayodhya. The driver of the junior engineer was driving the car at the time of the incident. Police has arrested the accused driver. He was found intoxicated with alcohol.

Giving information about the incident, SHO Bilhaur Surendra Singh said that three farmers died after being hit by the car of a Public Works Department official. The posting of the officer is in PWD department Ayodhya. At the time of the incident, his car driver Ajit Kumar Pandey was driving. SHO Surendra Singh said that preliminary investigation revealed that the driver Ajit Kumar was in an inebriated condition while driving the car.

SHO Surendra Singh told that the junior engineer of PWD department is a native of Sikandra in Kanpur Dehat. He was going back to Ayodhya after leaving his family. His car driver Ajit Kumar Pandey was driving. On the Lucknow-Etawah road, driver Ajit lost control of the car and ran over three farmers, Surendra Singh (62), Ahibaran Singh (63) and Ghasite Yadav (65), who were standing on the roadside, killing all three on the spot.

SHO Surendra Singh told that all the three deceased farmers were residents of Bilhaur. All three were standing on the roadside taking care of their gardens. He said that all three died on the spot. SHO Surendra Singh said that after the accident, the accused driver fled leaving the junior engineer in the car.

The police team that reached the information hurriedly took the three farmers to the hospital, where the doctors declared them dead. Junior engineer also got hurt. He has been admitted to the hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. SHO Surendra Singh said that prima facie there seems to be negligence of the driver. He was driving fast. At present he has been arrested. He was found intoxicated in the medical examination. An FIR has been registered against him under relevant sections.
