West Bengal: ED raids many places in Kolkata in connection with ration distribution scam

Kolkata: On Monday, The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids in several areas associated with the arrested Trinamool leader in the ration distribution scam case in West Bengal. ED conducted raids in four localities of Central Kolkata.

An official of the central agency said that the residence of a chartered accountant in Salt Lake was also raided. According to them, all these locations where searches were being conducted were linked to TMC leader and Bongaon Municipality’s former chairman Shankar Adhya.

Central force personnel were seen guarding the premises where the raids were going on. According to the ED, wherever the raids are being conducted, all these locations are linked to Shankar Adhya, a TMC leader and former chairman of Bongaon Municipal Corporation.

Central forces were seen monitoring the area during the raid. Adhya was arrested from his premises this month. Adhya is believed to be close to Minister of State Jyotipriya Mallik, who was arrested last year in connection with the ration distribution scam case.

On January 5, TMC leader Shah Jahan Sheikh’s supporters attacked the officials during a raid on his residence under the investigation of the ration distribution scam case. Three ED officers were injured in this attack. ED had registered a complaint in this case. At the same time, TMC leaders and state police filed a case against the Central Investigation Agency in another police station.
