Woman files for divorce after husband switches Goa honeymoon for Ayodhya, Varanasi pilgrimage

Bhopal/MP: In a strange incident, a woman from Madhya Pradesh has sought a divorce from her husband just five months after her marriage as he promised her a honeymoon in Goa but took her to Ayodhya and Varanasi instead. According to a report by sources, the unusual case reached the Bhopal family court on January 19, 10 days after the couple returned from their trip.

In her divorce petition, the woman said that her husband works in the IT sector and gets a good earnings. She herself draws a good salary, which means that going abroad for a honeymoon was not a big deal for them.

Despite not having financial constraints, the woman’s husband denied to go abroad and insisted on going to some place in India. He claimed that he had to take care of his parents, after which the couple agreed to go to Goa or South India for their honeymoon.

The wife agreed to a trip to Goa and South India. Later, however, the husband booked flight tickets to Ayodhya and Varanasi without knowing her. A day before the trip, he explained that his mother had expressed a desire to visit the holy city before the Ram Mandir consecration ceremony on January 22.

The woman calmly went on the trip with her husband and in-laws but filed for divorce after returning. She also claimed that her husband prioritised his family over her.

During the hearing at the family court, the husband told counsellors that his wife was making a big fuss about the issue. Advocate Shail Awasthi said the couple is currently receiving counselling. She also claimed in her statement that her husband took more care of his family members than her.
