5 people dead and over 40,000 evacuated as monsoon floods hit Myanmar

New Delhi: Monsoon rains triggered floods and landslides in Myanmar, killing at least five people and displacing nearly 40,000. Villages and farms in Rakhine State, devastated by Cyclone Mocha in May, are completely submerged.

Heavy rain falls on these days every year in Myanmar, but unusual weather events have been recorded around the world in recent weeks. In such a situation, scientists say that due to climate change, these incidents have become worse.

Normal life has been affected due to the rains which have come as a disaster in Myanmar. In such a situation, the work of relief and rescue is also going on at a fast pace. A 23-year-old local resident said, Bago floods every year, but this is the worst. Usually, during the rainy days, the water here gets filled up to the knees.

Over 870 people were shifted to the Bago Monastery on Friday night, where the monks made arrangements for food for all the people.

Meanwhile, 66-year-old Min Thaw said the ground floor of his two-storey house was flooded and the whole family shifted to the upper floor. They said, It seems to me that this is the first heavy flood situation in Bago in seven-eight years.
