9 dead as strong 6.8 magnitude earthquake jolts parts of Pakistan

Islamabad: 9 killed and more than 100 people injured in Pakistan as strong earthquake tremors were felt in India's neighboring country Pakistan late on Tuesday night. This figure is expected to increase. The magnitude of the earthquake was recorded at 6.8 on the Richter scale.

Islamabad: 9 killed and more than 100 people injured in Pakistan as strong earthquake tremors were felt in India’s neighboring country Pakistan late on Tuesday night. This figure is expected to increase. The magnitude of the earthquake was recorded at 6.8 on the Richter scale.

The epicentre of the earthquake was 40 km south-southeast of the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, while its depth was 180 kilometres, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, earthquake tremors were felt in the Pakistani cities of Islamabad, Peshawar, Lahore and Rawalpindi. A stampede was also reported in a market in Rawalpindi during the earthquake.

According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake also shook parts of Afghanistan and India, including the capital New Delhi. According to a report, nine people were killed and more than 100 people injured in incidents of roof, wall and house collapse due to the tremors, while eight houses were partially damaged in the province.

Swat District Police Officer Shafiullah Gandapur said that two people died in the district, while 150 people were injured. The injured have been taken to Saidu Teaching Hospital for treatment.

At the same time, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered the National Disaster Management Authority and other institutions to be ready to deal with any emergency situation.
