Ahmedabad: An official said that a child died after being crushed by a car, who was playing in the parking area of a housing society in Ahmedabad. M Division traffic police inspector U B Dhakhada said they have arrested the driver and are investigating the matter.
He said they have acquired CCTV footage showing what had happened. In the incident captured on CCTV, a one-year-old girl crawls towards a car and then stands in front of it before the driver crushes her.
The incident happened in Nehru Nagar area of Ahmedabad on Friday, April 12. The car driver has been detained and a case has been registered against him. The minor girl was the daughter of Mahavir, who works as a security guard in a housing society.
Mahavir, 26, lived in a single room in the housing society with his wife and minor daughter. The couple has another daughter who lives in Nepal. The CCTV footage shows the driver trying to get out by reversing the car in the parking area. The girl then comes from one side and crawls towards the vehicle before standing in front of the left tyre.
The car suddenly starts moving and crushes the child’s head. The video further shows a man running to take the child in his arms and confronting the driver of the car. The police have detained Kanak Lydia, 45, who was driving the car. He is a resident of Ambawadi area of Ahmedabad.
