Anti-Maoist Operation Claims Chhattisgarh Security Personnel’s Life

Dantewada, Chhattisgarh: In a tragic turn of events, a District Reserve Guard (DRG) constable lost his life, and another policeman sustained injuries due to an accidental firearm discharge during an anti-Maoist operation. The incident occurred in Dantewada district around 11 pm on Wednesday.

The joint team comprising DRG and Bastar Fighter units of the state police was engaged in the operation within the Barsoor police station limits when the mishap transpired. Acting on intelligence regarding armed Maoist presence in Handawada and Hitawada villages along the Dantewada-Narayanpur districts border, the security personnel launched the operation.

During patrolling, two DRG constables, Jograj Karma and Parsuram Alami, suffered gunshot wounds in the accidental firing. Despite immediate medical attention, Karma succumbed to his injuries due to excessive bleeding. Alami, on the other hand, was swiftly airlifted to Raipur for further treatment after receiving preliminary care.

The police statement did not specify whose firearm was involved in the accidental discharge, promising more details to be shared later. This tragic incident underscores the inherent risks and challenges faced by security personnel in conflict zones like Chhattisgarh’s Maoist-affected regions.
