Guwahati: A water pipeline burst on Rajgarh Road in Guwahati on Monday afternoon causing panic. The incident is being told near RG Barua Road near Guwahati Commerce College. According to the pictures that have come out, the water is seen spilling up to a very high level.

According to reports, a Guwahati Jal Board water pipeline burst near Commerce College Link Road on Rajgarh Road, causing panic among residents. There were no known casualties or injuries as a result of this incident. However, many expensive properties have been damaged.

The water flow was brought under control after a team from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority arrived at the spot.

Videos showed the gushing water flooding the areas around it as vehicles waded through the waterlogged roads.

Assam Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Ashok Singhal said a high-level inquiry has been launched into the incident.

“Rushed to the spot immediately after the incident to take stock of the situation at Rajgarh and Gauhati Commerce College link road, where a drinking water pipe exploded causing some damage nearby,” Singhal tweeted.

“A high-level inquiry is already in process…We will ensure that no such incident occurs in future. Such accidents are utterly unacceptable and I assure citizens that strict and prompt action will be taken in this regard,” the minister further said.

AAP in-charge of northeast Rajesh Sharma said the public was saddened by the failure, inefficiency of the “corrupt” BJP government in providing drinking water to the people of Guwahati.

“The people of Assam will have to unite and uproot this corrupt government,” Sharma tweeted.

Last month, a woman was killed after a water supply pipe burst in Guwahati’s Kharguli area. The pipeline was maintained by Gammon JICA.

Reportedly, over 600 people were affected and around 30 persons were injured in the incident.

Videos from the area showed water gushing out with full force, like a tsunami, and flooding the neighbourhood. The gushing water also damaged several houses and vehicles.
