Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma unveiled the ambitious “Lakhpati Baideo” scheme, aimed at empowering 40 lakh women self-help group (SHG) workers to become rural micro-entrepreneurs. The initiative provides ₹35,000 in financial assistance to each woman, with the goal of helping them achieve an annual income of ₹1 lakh.
Assam’s Lakhpati Baideo Scheme. The ‘Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan,’ implemented at an estimated cost of ₹4,000 crore, offers ₹10,000 in the first year and ₹12,500 from the government and an additional ₹12,500 as a bank loan (total ₹25,000) over the next two years. Beneficiaries are required to submit a business plan to access the grant.
Assam Launches Lakhpati Baideo Scheme. The scheme, aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of creating two crore ‘Lakhpati didis,’ is also part of Assam’s population control measures. Chief Minister Sarma emphasized that all welfare schemes will be linked to population control measures for the benefit of mothers and sisters.
Lakhpati Baideo Scheme For 40 Lakh Woman Entrepreneurs. To qualify for the scheme, women must meet three preconditions. General and OBC category beneficiaries should have no more than three children, while those in the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes should have no more than four children. Additionally, SHG members must enroll their girl child in school and, if underage, sign an undertaking to do so. The third condition requires the survival of trees planted under the Amrit Brikshya Andolan by beneficiaries.
