Bengaluru man gets metal piece in Swiggy-ordered food, Company offers Rs 50 refund

Bengaluru: In a recent incident reported from Bengaluru, a customer who ordered chicken shawarma through popular food delivery platform Swiggy was shocked to find a piece of metal in his food. The incident came to light when a Bengaluru resident ordered Absolute Shawarma at Nagawara. While enjoying his meal, he unexpectedly ate something crunchy, which was later identified as a piece of metal from the flame grill used in preparing shawarma.

Expressing his disappointment, the man took to Reddit to share the bizarre experience, providing photographic evidence to support his claims. The Reddit user, ‘sterlingcrises’, had ordered a chicken shawarma from ‘Absolute Shawarma’ in Nagawara, Bengaluru. While consuming his meal, he unexpectedly bit into something crispy, later identified as a metal fragment from the flame grill used in preparing the shawarma.

Expressing immediate concern, the customer contacted Swiggy’s support team and requested for a full refund and delivery of new shawarma without the need to order again through Swiggy. Besides, he also sought information about the action to be taken against the restaurant.

However, instead of properly addressing the food safety violation or apologizing sincerely, the Swiggy customer support executive surprisingly only offered a refund of Rs. 50 for bills above Rs. 160.

“In the name of an apology, I can offer you a refund of Rs. 50. Shall I proceed with that?” asked the Swiggy agent. Refusing to accept the paltry amount as a token apology, the customer was informed that his demands could not be met. In response, the frustrated customer emphasised in the comments that he could have “choked and died” due to the restaurant’s negligence, only to receive an inadequate refund.

The Reddit post shared by the user quickly garnered attention, prompting various comments. One user expressed, “Omg man that’s fucking disgusting!! I would’ve f***ing sue the restaurant for there life !! This is unacceptable and unreasonable.” Another suggested taking the matter public, advising the customer to review it on platforms like Zomato and Twitter, urging him to shame the restaurant and not retract the complaint under any circumstances.
