Bihar illegal sand mining case: Probe agency ED arrests Subhash Yadav, close aide of RJD chief Lalu

Bihar: On Sunday, officials sources said that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested a close aide of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, Subhash Yadav in connection with alleged illegal sand mining linked money laundering case late Saturday night.

The arrest follows a 14-hour raid conducted by the ED at Subhash Yadav’s premises and several other places in Bihar’s capital city Patna on Saturday. The ED’s actions stem from a probe initiated under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) based on 20 FIRs registered by the Bihar Police against M/s Broadsons Commodities Pvt Ltd (BCPL) whose director is Subhash Yadav.

Runs the business of illegal sand mining
Subhash Yadav has also contested the Lok Sabha elections on RJD ticket. The FIRs accused BCPL of engaging in illegal sand mining and sale without using e-challans, raising serious concerns about environmental regulations and revenue losses.

Subhash Yadav, who also is the Director of Broadson Construction Pvt Ltd, runs the business of illegal sand mining in Bihar. The PMLA investigation revealed that a staggering Rs 161 crore had been generated through the illegal sale of sand.

The illicit sand trade is reportedly controlled by a syndicate, with members investing funds in companies like BCPL and profiting from the unauthorised sale of sand. The money laundering case stems from some FIRs filed by the Bihar Police earlier.

Earlier arrests included JD(U) leader and Bihar Legislative Council member Radha Charan Sah and his son. Earlier, the Income Tax Department had raided the premises of Subhash Yadav. In 2018, actions were taken in Patna, Delhi and Dhanbad. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Subhash Yadav contested as an RJD candidate from Chatra, Jharkhand, however, he lost the election.
