Patna: In a proactive move to enhance public safety, Bihar Police has launched a dedicated 24/7 helpline, accessible at ‘14432,’ to facilitate the reporting of serious crimes, including murders and rapes. This new initiative supplements the existing emergency helpline ‘112,’ prohibition helpline ‘15545,’ and cybercrime helpline ‘1930.’
The helpline, monitored by the Special Task Force of the state police, ensures the confidentiality of informants, particularly those reporting heinous crimes. Only information related to serious offenses and the individuals involved in them can be provided on this dedicated number. The police underscored that prompt action will be taken based on the information shared by the public.
Bihar, according to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) 2022 data, faces significant crime challenges. While Delhi recorded the highest number of murders among 19 metro cities, Patna ranked first in terms of murder rates. The murder rate in Patna, with a figure of 5.2, surpassed that of Delhi, making it the highest among metros.
Patna witnessed the highest number of murders related to love affairs, totaling 26 cases, while also recording the maximum number of murders for profit, with 23 cases reported. In 2022, 107 people lost their lives to murder in Patna, ranking it sixth among metropolitan cities.
Bihar Police’s initiative aims to empower the public to contribute actively to crime prevention, creating a more vigilant and secure community.
