Jammu and Kashmir: A devastating accident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district resulted in the loss of five lives, including that of a 4-year-old girl, when a car skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge. The incident occurred on Saturday evening as the vehicle was en route from Thathri to Kathawa.
According to police reports, the tragic accident happened at Khanpura around 7 pm. The car, carrying several passengers, veered off the road and plummeted into the gorge, causing extensive damage to the vehicle. Station House Officer Suresh Gautam, leading the rescue operation, confirmed the casualties.
Among the deceased are Mukhtiyar Ahmad, Riyaz Ahmad, Mohd Rafi, and Ireena Begum. The 4-year-old girl who tragically lost her life is the daughter of Mohd Amir and Saima, both of whom sustained injuries and are currently hospitalized. Additionally, Sufiyan Sheikh and two other girls were injured in the accident and are in critical condition.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed profound grief over the loss of lives and instructed the district administration to provide all necessary assistance to those affected. He conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.
Democratic Progressive Azad Party chairman and former chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad also expressed sorrow over the tragic incident. He urged the government to provide compensation to the affected families and called for intensified measures to curb accidents in the Chenab Valley region.
Both the LG and Azad emphasized the need for immediate assistance to the affected families and highlighted the importance of preventive measures to avoid such tragedies in the future. The injured are currently receiving medical treatment, while authorities are working to support the families impacted by this heart-wrenching accident.
