Chennai: A woman passenger, who was sitting on the seat of a government bus in Chennai, narrowly escaped death after falling from the moving bus on Tuesday after the board under her seat broke. The co-passengers alerted the driver and the bus came to a halt.

A government city bus route no. 59, was en-rote from Chennai Thiruvekkadu to Vallalar Nagar this afternoon. A 27-year-old woman was travelling in the last seat of the bus. When the bus reached near Amijikarai area, suddenly the board under the seat where the woman was sitting broke, and a hole appeared.

Through this hole, the girl slipped. After passengers alerted the bus driver and conductor, the bus was stopped. She was later rescued and was promptly admitted to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

After knowing information about the incident, the police and transport department officials swiftly rushed to the spot and started an investigation. The other passengers who were travelling on the bus were shifted to another bus. The police have registered a case and are investigating.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai criticizes the ruling DMK government and said this was the best example of how the DMK government governs the state.

“Due to poorly maintained buses, water seeping inside the bus during the rainy season, broken seats, even the lives of public traveling in government buses are not safe, the transport department is completely paralyzed today. Not only the transport department, but every Tamil Nadu government department is in a similar state of disrepair. The question arises as to where all the tax money of the people is going. The minister who thinks about the ways in which corruption can be done in the transport sector should also focus on the maintenance of government buses, Annamalai posted on X
