As discussions surrounding seat-sharing agreements intensify ahead of the upcoming general elections, the Congress party has reportedly put forth a bold demand for 15 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar from its alliance partner, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
In a bid to secure a substantial foothold in Bihar, Congress has presented a list of 15 Lok Sabha constituencies to the RJD for fielding its candidates. However, a final consensus on seat-sharing between the two parties is yet to be reached, with discussions slated to take place in the coming days.
During the 2019 general elections, Congress contested nine out of the 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar as part of the alliance, managing to secure victory only in the Kishanganj constituency. In contrast, the RJD failed to clinch any seats in the same elections.
The list of seats demanded by Congress encompasses key constituencies such as Sasaram, Muzaffarpur, Begusarai, and others, underlining the party’s strategic focus on regions with significant electoral significance.
With the tenure of the 17th Lok Sabha session led by the NDA set to conclude in June 2024, political parties nationwide have commenced their election campaigns. The upcoming elections are poised to witness a showdown between the ruling NDA alliance and the emerging I.N.D.I.A bloc.
General elections are anticipated to be held between April and May across the country to elect members of the 18th Lok Sabha. As the political landscape evolves, parties are gearing up for what promises to be a fiercely contested electoral battle, with implications extending far beyond Bihar to shape the national political narrative.
