New Delhi: On Wednesday, a police said that a 40-year-old man strangled his 35-year-old wife in front of their four children at their home in North-East Delhi over suspicion of an illicit relationship. The deceased has been identified as Shabnam, a resident of Chand Bagh area.
According to the police, between Tuesday and Wednesday at 12:46 pm, the police control room received a call regarding the incident in Dayalpur police station. The accused has been identified as Umeed Singh, a 40-year-old carpenter, lived with his wife Shabnam, 35, as a tenant in Chand Bagh of Delhi.
The couple had three children from their marriage of over seven years, with another child from Shabnam’s previous marriage. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East) Joy Tirkey said, “On the day of the incident, the couple had a fierce fight. In the meantime, Umang strangled his wife, after which she fainted. He was rushed to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.”
According to the information received by police, neighbours alerted the police about the incident. The police said that they found the woman unconscious when they reached the site. After this horrible incident, Police have arrested Umeed Singh and registered a case of murder. The victims body has been sent for post-mortem.
After the prime investigations, an official said that On Tuesday night the couple got into an argument over Singh’s suspicion that Shabnam was having an extramarital affair. The quarrel turned violent and in a fit of rage the man strangled his wife. All four of Shabnam’s children, including her nine-year-old daughter from a previous marriage, witnessed the crime.
