Delhi Flood: Many areas still submerged, NDRF conducts rescue operation in Pragati Maidan

New Delhi: Yamuna is in spate due to heavy rains and water released from Haryana. The havoc of floods in the country’s capital Delhi is still intact. The water level of the Yamuna river still crossed the danger mark. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams carried out rescue operations in low-lying areas near Pragati Maidan late on Saturday night as the Yamuna river continued to swell, officials said.

Due to rise in the water level of Yamuna river, water-logging situation persists in many parts of the national capital. The surrounding areas and several major roads are affected due to water-logging. More details on the rescue operation are awaited.

Meanwhile, workers of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) carried out a special operation to clear water from Mathura Road near the Supreme Court area. The operation went on late into the night as the surrounding areas and major roads were inundated due to heavy rains on Saturday.

Hundreds of people rescued from low-lying areas spent the night at the Mayur Vihar relief camp. On Saturday, heavy rains lashed various parts of Delhi, leading to water-logging and traffic jams in the national capital.

Traffic has been affected due to water-logging and uprooting of trees on some roads, according to the Delhi Traffic Police advisory issued late on Saturday night. Trees were also uprooted during the rains at places like Tughlaq Road, disrupting vehicular movement.

All commuters are advised to avoid routes like Khan Market, Teen Murti Gol Chakkar, GGR-PDR, A-Point to W-Point, Kamla Express Building, Andrews Ganj, Khanpur T-Point, Under Railway Bridge at Bhairon Marg . The roads in these areas are full of water.
