A shocking incident unfolded late Monday night near Red Fort, Delhi, as cab driver Shakib, 36, was fatally assaulted and shot allegedly by three men after a minor road accident. The gruesome incident, which occurred around midnight, saw bystanders watching as Shakib was dragged out of his WagonR, assaulted, stabbed, and finally shot dead.
Initial Accident: The sequence of events began when Shakib’s WagonR collided with an e-rickshaw near Kodia Pul-Chatta rail crossing. Three individuals, yet to be identified, confronted Shakib over the accident, leading to a heated altercation.
Assault and Fatal Attack: Over the next 20 minutes, the assailants relentlessly beat Shakib, who attempted to seek refuge in his car. However, the men continued the assault through the half-open window. Eventually, Shakib was dragged out, stabbed multiple times, and shot.
Eyewitness Injured: A 15-year-old beggar, present at the scene, was also shot in the foot during the scuffle.
Bystanders’ Silence: Shockingly, no bystander made a police call during the assault. It was only after Shakib was rushed to Lok Nayak Hospital that authorities were informed, more than an hour after the incident.
Police Response: DCP (North) Manoj Kumar Meena stated that the police were alerted when a man and the injured boy were admitted to the hospital. An FIR has been registered under relevant sections, and efforts to identify and apprehend the suspects are underway.
Tragic Loss: Shakib, a cab driver since 2014, was the primary breadwinner for his joint family in Zakir Nagar. His family heavily relied on his income, with plans for his sister’s marriage and home renovations.
Personal Struggles: Shakib had transitioned to cab driving after leaving a graphic designing job in Nehru Place due to personal reasons. He had expressed aspirations for a more stable job in the future.
Shakib’s father Shahid shared the family’s financial struggles, highlighting that the tragic loss of his son has left a significant void in their lives.
Nadeem, Shakib’s childhood friend, recalled their upbringing together and Shakib’s career transition. He expressed shock at the brutality of the incident and Shakib’s untimely demise.
