Former Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Vijay Kumar and his wife, Anupama Kumari, officially became members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Lucknow, with Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak present, on April 8.
Vijay Kumar, who served as a top cop, joined the BJP alongside his wife and other party leaders. He has had important roles besides being the DGP.

Originally from Satoh village in Jalaun district, Vijay Kumar went to school there before moving to Kanpur for further studies. After another DGP’s retirement, Vijay Kumar acted as the DGP of UP, and he has also been in charge of various districts in the state.
Vijay Kumar started his career with a degree in Civil Engineering and became an IPS officer in 1988. He worked in places like Shahjahanpur and Gorakhpur. His first role after training was as a captain in Pilibhit. His father, Ram Prasad, was also in the UP Police.
The couple, along with leaders from different parties, formally joined the BJP at the party’s office in Lucknow.
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said, “Many important leaders from different parties have joined the BJP. I welcome everyone. Let’s come together and aim for victory in all 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh.”
