Police raid on 17 jails of Gujarat, Home Minister himself monitoring For the first time in the state, such action was taken on the jails in collaboration with the Jail Department. Surprise checking of jails started after meeting with Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi.

Gujarat Jail Raid: The inspection of all 17 jails in Gujarat is being monitored by state Home Minister Harsh Shanghvi, senior officials of the Home Department and Police Bhavan. The Gujarat Police said that a search operation has been launched to recover the banned items. Gujarat Director General of Police Vikas Sahai said, 1700 policemen have been deployed for the raids in 17 jails. The police is checking to prevent any illegal activities inside the jail and the facilities being provided to the prisoners as per the law. The inspection will continue till Saturday.

Senior officers were keeping an eye on the operation

For the first time in the state, such action was taken on the jails in collaboration with the Jail Department. Surprise checking of jails started after meeting with Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi. DGP Vikas Sahay, Head of Jail Department K. L N Rao and IB chief Anupam Singh Gehlot were monitoring the operation.

Checking started in jails including Surat, Baroda, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Bhuj Simultaneously the investigation started after the Home Department received the news of unauthorized activities going on in the jails of the state. Sabarmati Jail is also included in the jails where surprise checking took place.

Minister of State for Home had inspected Sabarmati Jail

Gujarat’s Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi inspected Sabarmati Jail for about three hours on 22 March. Due to the detention of Uttar Pradesh’s mafia Atiq Ahmed in this jail, every detail was also investigated. Atiq Ahmed was shifted from Allahabad to this very secure jail in Ahmedabad in June 2019 on the orders of the Supreme Court.
