Gujarat: Social media influencer accuses husband, in-laws of assault in Gandhinagar; FIR registered

Ahmedabad: In yet another distressing incident, a social media influencer has registered a complaint against her husband and in-laws, alleging that they subjected her to cruelty and assaulted and threatened her because they did not approve of her making videos and posting them on social media and that they questioned her fidelity because of it.

After being assaulted and threatened by her husband and in-laws, a social media influencer, who is a resident of Gujarat’s Gandhinagar, approached the police and filed a case against them. According to the influencer, she had to face the cruelty of her husband and in-laws as they did not like her making videos and posting them on social media.

In her complaint, the woman said her husband’s family members started objecting to her making videos within a month of the wedding. The complainant further stated that her in-laws also doubted her character. “Despite informing my husband about the behaviour of my in-laws, my husband did not support me. He instead rebuked me for not helping with the domestic chores,” the woman said, adding that this was the second marriage of her husband.

“As I could not bear the torture, I returned to my parents’ house. But my husband came and requested me to come back. We then started staying separately from his parents. However, my in-laws would keep coming to our house and taunt me for making videos. I earn money by posting videos on social media. As my husband misused the money I earned, I stopped giving him. Therefore, I was beaten brutally by my husband and his family members,” the complainant said.

“I was abused and beaten by my husband, mother-in-law, father-in-law, husband’s uncle and aunt, and sister. They told me to leave the house. I don’t want to stay with my husband now and I want divorce. They not only assaulted me but threatened my parents as well. I was admitted to hospital as I received injuries as they assaulted me,” she added.

A case has been filed at Gandhinagar’s Adalaj police station against the complainant’s husband and his five family members under relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The probe is currently underway. The accused were yet to be arrested.
