IPS officer Utkal Ranjan Sahu appointed as Rajasthan new DGP for 2 year

Rajasthan: The Rajasthan government issued an order appointing senior IPS officer Utkal Ranjan Sahu as the Director General of Police (DGP) of the state on Saturday. The 1988 batch IPS officer has been appointed for a period of two years or until further orders.

Rajasthan: The Rajasthan government issued an order appointing senior IPS officer Utkal Ranjan Sahu as the Director General of Police (DGP) of the state on Saturday. The 1988 batch IPS officer has been appointed for a period of two years or until further orders.

Sahu was given the additional charge of DGP after the voluntary retirement of Umesh Mishra on December 29. The Personnel Department of the state government said that Sahu will remain on the post of Director General of Police of Rajasthan for two years or till further orders.

Sahu is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of 1988 batch. Sahu is originally from Odisha, he got promotion to DG rank in June 2020 itself. Before this, he was posted as UR Sahu DG (Director General) Home Guard for about 2.5 years. IPS Sahu was earlier serving as Director General and Commandant General, Home Guards in Rajasthan Police.

Umesh Mishra is originally a resident of Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh. Umesh Mishra had been in intelligence for about four years. After which he was made the Director General of Rajasthan Police on 27 October 2022. Umesh Mishra was made DGP by bypassing two senior IPS officers. Both those IPS were more senior than him. Utkal Ranjan Sahu will also take charge of Home Guard. Utkal Ranjan Sahu got promotion to DG rank in June 2020.
