Kerala blast: 12-year-old girl succumbs to burn injuries, death toll rises to three, all party meet today

Kerala: According to an official statement,the death toll from the blasts at a Christian religious gathering near this port city has risen to three. A 12-year-old girl, who was hospitalised with 90% burn injuries, succumbed in the early hours of Monday, taking the death toll in the blast to three.

Kerala: The death count in the Kerala serial blasts climbed to 3 on Monday as a girl, who was hospitalized with 90% burn injuries, succumbed in the early morning. She was 12-year-old. According to official statement, The death toll from the blast at a Christian religious gathering near this port city has risen to three. The investigation on these blasts is going on and it was also suspected that it might be a terror attack.

According to report,the girl has been identified as Libina from Malayattoor.According to Medical Superintendent Dr. Ganesh Mohan, the girl had suffered 95 per cent burn injuries in the blast. He said she was admitted to the hospital on Sunday and was being treated on a ventilator.

“Later she became unresponsive to medicines and died today at 12.40 am,” Mohan said, as quoted by ANI. Notably, two women who were part of the gathering had died on Sunday. This marks the third casualty from the blasts at the convention centre.

CM Pinarayi Vijayan said that a special 20-member team led by ADGP Law and Order will be probing the case. He added that an all-party meeting has been called for Monday, reported. Over 50 individuals were injured, some seriously, during the multiple blasts at the international convention centre in Kalamassery where the followers from the minority Christian group, Jehovah’s Witnesses, had gathered for the final day of a three-day-long prayer meeting.

A few hours after the incident, a man claiming to be a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses, surrendered before police in Thrissur district of the State, saying that he carried out the multiple blasts. The man, who identified himself as Dominic Martin, released a video message on a social media platform, subsequently aired on various TV channels, news agency reported.

Dominic Martin, the person who claimed responsibility for the blast, is likely to be produced before the Principal District and Sessions Court in Kochi on Monday. The police had invoked the provisions of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act in the First Information Report filed in the court on Sunday, the day of the blast which claimed three lives.

In the video, Martin said he took this step due to what he perceive as ‘seditious teachings’ of the Jehovah’s Witnesses organisation, as per report. Meanwhile, the woman who was killed in the blast on the spot has been identified as Leona, 55, a native of Perumbavoor. The condition of four others, hospitalised with severe burn injuries, is said to be serious.
