Liquor policy case: Jailed BRS leader and daughter of ex Telangana CM Chandrasekhar, K Kavitha arrested by CBI

New Delhi: On Thursday, The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested jailed Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC and daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, K Kavitha in connection with the now-scrapped Delhi liquor policy case. The arrest comes days after the probe agency questioned her in jail, where she is in judicial custody.

New Delhi: On Thursday, The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested jailed Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC and daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, K Kavitha in connection with the now-scrapped Delhi liquor policy case. The arrest comes days after the probe agency questioned her in jail, where she is in judicial custody.

According to sources, Kavitha will stay in Tihar on Thursday night and will be produced in court on Friday morning. After which, the CBI will seek her custody. Kavitha, who is the daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, is presently lodged in Tihar Jail till April 23.

She was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) from her residence in Hyderabad on March 15 on money laundering charges in the case. Notably, Kavitha has been accused of being a key member of the “South Group”, which allegedly Rs 100 crore kickbacks to the ruling AAP in Delhi in return for a big share of liquor licences in the national capital.

Earlier, Kavitha said the CBI had recorded her statement in jail and alleged that it was a “political case”. She said,”This is a case based entirely on statements. It is a political case. It is a case to target opposition parties. The CBI has already recorded my statement in jail.”

CBI officials had recently questioned Kavitha inside the jail after obtaining permission from a special court.The BRS leader was questioned about WhatsApp chats recovered from co-accused Buchi Babu’s phone and documents related to a land deal in connection with the liquor policy case. Sources said the on April 6, the CBI had gone to Tihar jail to question Kavitha on these aspects of the case, sources said.
