Lucknow Imposes Ban on Liquor Sale for Holi Celebrations

Lucknow Imposes Ban on Liquor Sale for Holi Celebrations

Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: In anticipation of the festival of Holi, the Lucknow District Magistrate has implemented a strict ban on the sale of alcohol, toddy, beer, and cannabis (Bhang) on March 25, 2024. This decision, aimed at ensuring public tranquility during the vibrant festival, encompasses all establishments selling these intoxicants within the district.

District Magistrate’s Order

Lucknow District Magistrate, Suryapal Gangwar, issued an order under Section 59 of the Uttar Pradesh Excise Act, emphasizing the closure of all liquor shops and related permissions on March 25th. The order includes a range of permissions such as those for country liquor, foreign liquor, beer, model shops, bhang, toddy, and bar operations.

Strict Monitoring by Excise Department

The Excise Department will be closely monitoring liquor shops to ensure compliance with the order. Any violations by shopkeepers may result in the revocation of their licenses. In light of this, enthusiasts have begun stocking up on supplies well in advance of the festival.

Vigilance Against Disturbances

On the day of Holi, police and administration will be vigilant against any disturbances. Authorities have directed police officers to take strict action against any anti-social elements causing disruptions during the festival.

Holi: The Festival of Colours

Holi, also known as the “Festival of Colours,” is a joyful Hindu festival celebrated with enthusiasm throughout India. Set to be celebrated on March 25 this year, the festival includes lighting bonfires to signify the victory of good over evil.

During Holi, people come together, share traditional sweets, and drench each other in colorful powders, symbolizing the onset of spring and fostering a sense of community.

Section 144 Imposed till May 17

In view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and various festivals, including Holi and the ongoing Ramzan, the Uttar Pradesh government has imposed Section 144 in Lucknow. This measure aims to maintain peace and order in the city until May 17.
