Maharashtra: 4 Dead, over 30 families feared trapped after landslide in Raigad; Rescue ops on

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Raigad on Thursday amid incessant rains in parts of the state. The district administration has appealed to NGOs to come forward and assist the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) in the rescue operation after the landslide incident. All schools in the state have been closed.

Maharashtra: The landslide occurred in Irshalwadi village of Khalapur tehsil of Raigad district late on Wednesday night. As soon as the information was received, two teams of NDRF have reached the spot. Tribal people’s houses have been damaged in this landslide. More than 30 families are stranded at the spot. NDRF teams have started rescue work.

Over 30 families are feared trapped after a landslide occurred late Wednesday night in Maharashtra’s Raigad district, where around 46 houses of a tribal settlement are located. Officials said five to six of these houses managed to escape damage and a school was also undamaged. The incident took place at Khalapur in Raigad, which is 6 km from Chowk village near Morbe Dam, the water supplier for Navi Mumbai.

According to the information being received, so far 25 people have been pulled out of the debris in this incident. Of these, four people have died while 21 people are seriously injured. The injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital. It is feared that many more people are still trapped in the debris.

The accident happened on Wednesday late night at 12 o’clock. In such a situation, it is being feared that many people may be present in the houses which have come under its grip due to the sliding of rock and soil. It has been raining heavily in the area for some time, in such a situation, this rain is believed to be the reason for the rock slide.

Explain that amid incessant rains in some parts of the state, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a “red alert” for Raigad on Thursday. The district administration has appealed to NGOs to come forward and assist the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) in the rescue operation after the landslide incident.

Raigarh District Collector Yogesh Mhase said the incident took place around midnight and a team of a sub-divisional officer and the tehsildar of Khopoli reached the spot.
