Maharashtra: On Tuesday, an official said at least four Naxalites were killed in the Gadchiroli district of eastern Maharashtra during an encounter with the police. However, after searching, the soldiers recovered many weapons including AK 47 from the spot.
The encounter happened between C-60 commandos of the Maharashtra Police and Naxalites in the forest area. Later the police recovered the bodies of 4 Naxalites from the spot.
The forces also recovered bodies of four rebels, a cache of weapons including one AK-47 carbine, two home-made pistols and Naxalite literature. There was a huge reward of Rs 36 lakh on the dead Naxalites, indicating their importance within the Naxalite network.
Furthermore, it has also been revealed that Naxalites were crossing the Telangana border and infiltrating into Gadchiroli, possibly as part of a larger plan to disrupt the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. According to the information, search operation is still going on in the area.
