Pune: In a grim verdict, the Sessions Court in Pune has handed down a death sentence to a 24-year-old man for the rape and murder of a six-year-old girl in Maval Taluka. The incident, which occurred in August 2022, sent shockwaves through the community, prompting swift legal action.
The gruesome incident took place in August 2022, when the innocent girl was abducted while playing in the courtyard of her home. The accused, a resident of Kamshet in Maval Taluka, committed the heinous acts of rape and subsequently slit her throat. Tragically, the lifeless body of the young victim was discovered the following day in the accused’s own backyard.
Notably, the mother of the accused has also been sentenced to seven years in prison for her role in concealing evidence and failing to report the crime to the authorities. Her complicity in attempting to shield her son from accountability underscores the gravity of the situation and the collective responsibility to uphold justice.
During the investigation, both the accused initially confessed to the crime but later changed their pleas to not guilty after the chargesheet was filed by the police. However, the prosecution meticulously presented evidence, establishing the accused’s guilt beyond reasonable doubt. The court’s swift and decisive action, coupled with the gratitude expressed by Public Prosecutor Senior Advocate Rajesh Kavediya, reflects the commitment to expedite justice for the victim and her family.
In response to the court’s verdict, Defense Lawyer Advocate Yashpal Purohit acknowledged the judgment but indicated plans to seek legal remedies through a higher court.
The Sessions Court, in its order, condemned the heinous nature of the crime, characterizing it as one of the most barbaric acts perpetrated by an individual driven by depraved and relentless urges.
