A disturbing incident unfolded near Tripunithura in Kochi, Kerala, where a man allegedly assaulted a woman police officer and a nurse in separate incidents while under the influence of alcohol. The perpetrator has since been apprehended, with authorities registering two FIRs against him.
In the first incident, the woman police officer intervened to stop the accused from sexually harassing a woman near the Tripunithura bus stop. However, the situation escalated when the accused, in an inebriated state, assaulted the officer before being taken into custody with the assistance of additional personnel.
Following this altercation, an FIR was filed under sections 354A (sexual harassment), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 294(b) (obscene acts and songs in a public place) of the IPC against the assailant. He was subsequently taken to a taluk hospital for medical examination.
At the hospital, the man’s aggression continued as he allegedly kicked a nurse and struck a police officer present at the scene. Another FIR was lodged under section 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) of the IPC and relevant provisions of the Kerala Healthcare Service Persons and Healthcare Service Institutions Act.
The accused will be presented before the court today for remand proceedings, as authorities strive to ensure justice for the victims and accountability for the perpetrator.
