Massive fire at Bhopal’s government building, Air force called in to douse

The Defense Minister directed that on the instructions of the Defense Minister, 32 Air Force aircraft and MI 15 helicopters will reach Bhopal tonight. They will try to douse the fire by pouring water from the top of the Satpura building.

Bhopal: A massive fire broke out on the third floor of the ‘Satpura Bhawan’, which houses offices of various departments of the Madhya Pradesh government, in Bhopal on Monday, prompting authorities, the Army, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and oil companies to douse the blaze. Fire engines had to be called. According to the information, the fire started from the third floor of the government building of the tribal welfare department’s regional office, soon spread to the fourth, fifth and sixth floors, important government files were also gutted in the health department’s office.

On the instructions of the Defense Minister, 32 Air Force aircraft and MI 15 helicopters will reach Bhopal tonight. They will try to douse the fire by pouring water from the top of the Satpura building. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is personally monitoring the progress of the fire fighting operation. He has also constituted an inquiry panel comprising Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Principal Secretary (Urban Development), Principal Secretary (PWD) and ADG (Fire) to probe the cause of the fire.

According to government sources, the floor of Satpura where fire broke out, basically has three departments, Tribal Welfare Department, Transport Department and Health Department. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan also discussed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on telephone and informed about the unfortunate incident of fire in Satpura Bhawan.
