Monsoon fury: 179 roads closed in Uttarakhand due to floods and landslides, 323 villages affected

About 2000 kanwariyas are stuck at Sungar and Ganganali on the Gangotri Highway. Along with this, 400 Kanwar pilgrims are also stranded in the spate of Kheerganga near Dharali. While the Yamunotri Highway is also blocked near Jhanjhar Gad, Silkyara near Kuthnaur and Ranachati. Apart from this, 179 roads including five highways, four state roads and 170 link roads are blocked in the Garhwal region.

Garhwal: Life in the hilly areas has been derailed due to rain. Due to this, the kanwariyas who go to fill Ganga water along with the pilgrims on the Char Dham Yatra route are also facing problems. Badrinath Highway could be opened in Totaghati and Kaudiyala after 14 hours.

Apart from this, the Badrinath highway has been blocked on Wednesday evening due to debris in Mulyagaon, Chhinka in Tehri district and Sirobgarh in Rudraprayag district and Kachanganga, Tangdi Patalganga, Chhinka, Pipalkoti, Pagalnala in Chamoli district. In its Chamoli district, 3000 pilgrims have been rekaed at different places. Apart from this, heavy stones are continuously falling from the hill in Patalganga.

On the other hand, about 2000 kanwariyas are stuck in Sungar and Ganganali on the Gangotri Highway. Along with this, 400 Kanwar pilgrims are also stranded in the spate of Kheerganga near Dharali. Whereas, the Yamunotri Highway is also blocked near Jhanjhar Gad, Silkyara, Kuthnaur and Ranachati. Apart from this, 179 roads including five highways, four state roads and 170 link roads are blocked in the Garhwal region. Along with this, the contact of 323 villages with the district headquarters has been cut off.

Three houses washed away, demand to set up village elsewhere

Due to heavy rains, the houses of three villagers in Kunjoli village under Vironkhal block came under the grip of landslide, while the houses of seven villagers are in danger. The villagers have demanded the displacement of the villagers from the administration. Former Principal Virendra Singh Gusain said that these days the Panchrad river is in spate due to heavy rains.

Kunjoli village is also situated on the banks of Panchrad river. Due to the erosion caused by the river, the houses of Jaipal Singh, Bhagat Singh and Kuldeep have become razed to the ground. On the other hand, the Pauri-Thalisain-Ramnagar National Highway is blocked near Kanyur. Assistant Engineer Girdhar Tamta told that in the next three days the highway will be opened for heavy vehicles as well.

Tehri lake water level increased by 13 meters in last four days
The water level of Tehri lake has increased by 13 meters in the last four days. The water level of Tehri lake was recorded at 764 meters on Sunday, while it increased to 777 meters on Wednesday. Due to incessant rains, 1600 cumecs of water from Bhagirathi and Bhilangana rivers is coming to Tehri lake every day. The Tehri Hydro Development Corporation is also storing more water in the lake to reduce the risk of floods in Rishikesh and Haridwar, said LP Joshi, executive director of THDC. Only 139 cumecs of water is being released from the lake into the Bhagirathi river.
