New Delhi: On Monday, An official said that at least 94 people died, including children after a ferry boat capsized off the northern coast of Mozambique. The ferry carrying around 130 passengers sank off the coast of Nampula province.

New Delhi: On Monday, An official said that at least 94 people died, including children after a ferry boat capsized off the northern coast of Mozambique. The ferry carrying around 130 passengers sank off the coast of Nampula province.

According to the information, 26 are missing in this incident. On Monday, Lourenco Machado, an administrator of the country’s Maritime Transport Institute, informed of an updated death toll on state television as rescue workers found more bodies.

He said,”On Sunday we registered a maritime incident where at least 94 people died when a barge carrying 130 people capsized. We have recovered 94 bodies and 26 are missing.”

He also said that the boat was carrying people from Lunga in Nampula province to Mozambique island. He added that initial reports indicated it was hit by a tidal wave. Passengers were fleeing a cholera outbreak.

On social media,Videos posted,showed several bodies lying on the beach and some people carrying the bodies of children. According to the information, Some of the people were traveling to attend a fair.

Since last year, Mozambique and other countries in southern Africa have been battling cholera outbreaks. Many areas of Mozambique are only accessible by boat, which are often overcrowded. The country has a poor road network and some areas are inaccessible by land or air.
