Mumbai: Two people arrested after drugs worth over Rs 1 crore seized

Mumbai: The Mumbai police arrested two people and seized 503 grams of mephedrone drugs worth Rs 1.18 crore and other chemicals and machines worth Rs five lakh from a drug factory in the Lalji Pada slum area of the city on Thursday.

Mumbai: The Mumbai police arrested two people and seized 503 grams of mephedrone drugs worth Rs 1.18 crore and other chemicals and machines worth Rs five lakh from a drug factory in the Lalji Pada slum area of the city on Thursday.

The officer said that one suspect identified as Noor Alam Mahboob Alam Chaudhary. He was 24-year-old chemical scientist. He was also arrested in connection with the matter. Officer added that he is believed to be mastermind behind the chemical production.

He also said that another suspect, identified as Abrar Ibrahim Shaikh. He was 30-year-old. He was also arrested for drug possession, the police said. Following the operation, a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered against the accused.

Giving details about this incident, police said that 30-year-old Shaikh was arrested by the police with 100 bottles of thinner and one gram of mephedrone. After the prime interrogation, he confessed to having procured them from Chaudhry, whose place, when police raided, found an illegal lab operating at his Kandivali premises.

Officer also said that the raiding team also found material and literature to manufacture the banned narcotics substance. According to the police report the two have been remanded to police custody until January 15.
