Over 20 women alleges gang-rape in exchange for Anganwadi jobs in Rajasthan’s Sirohi; 2 Booked

Sirohi/Rajasthan: In yet another heart-wrenching incident unfolded from Sirohi, Rajasthan where chairperson of the Sirohi Municipal Council in Rajasthan, Mahendra Mevada, and the former municipal council Commissioner, Mahendra Choudhary have come under the scanner for raping 23 women under the pretext of providing them jobs as ‘Anganwadi workers.’ The incident took place in Sirohi city of Rajasthan. A case of gang-rape has been filed against them.

The incident came into limelight after a woman from Pali district approached the police, alleging that the accused had lured her and approximately 20 other women with job opportunities.

The woman also claimed that the accused videographed the sexual assaults, later threatening to share the footage on social media and blackmailing the victims for money – demanding Rs five lakh each.

According to the complainant, she along with other women had gone to Sirohi to work in Anganwadi several months ago. They encountered the accused, who provided them accommodation and food. She further alleged that the food given to her was laced with intoxicants, after which she was sexually assaulted.

Upon regaining consciousness, he confronted the accused, who confessed to betraying him for their own purposes. The accused also allegedly forced the women to have physical relations based on their demands.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Paras Choudhary, stated that the women had previously filed a false complaint. However, the Rajasthan High Court has now ordered a case to be registered following a petition by eight women.

Investigations into the case are underway.
