Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate a slew of infrastructure projects worth over Rs 17,000 crore in Tamil Nadu’s Tuticorin, showcasing a strategic focus on transportation and maritime capabilities. The event, jointly organized by the Ministries of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways; Road Transport and Highways; and Railways, will see the unveiling of projects spanning foundation stone laying, national initiatives, and inaugurations.


Green Initiatives and Hydrogen Fuel Hub:
PM Modi to lay the foundation stone for the Outer Harbour Container Terminal project and inaugurate VOC Port as India’s pioneering green hydrogen hub.

GTTP for Green Tug Transition: The Green Tug Transition Programme (GTTP) targets converting 50% of tugs into green tugs by 2030, aligning with major ports’ acquisition of two new green tugs from Cochin Shipyard by 2027.

Sagarmala Program Driving Modernization: Inauguration of port modernization projects, mainly falling under the Sagarmala Program, with 98 projects worth Rs 93,671 crore being implemented in Tamil Nadu.

Coastal Communities and Skill Development: Initiatives like Sagarmala contribute to uplifting coastal communities, supporting fishing harbor projects and emphasizing maritime skill development.

Eastern Maritime Corridor: The Eastern Maritime Corridor from Chennai to Vladivostok, Russia, promises enhanced connectivity, reducing travel time and distance in cargo transportation, fostering stronger ties with Far East Russia.

Cruise Tourism Growth: Tamil Nadu’s progress in cruise tourism highlighted, with Cordelia Cruises to Sri Lanka and upcoming domestic cruises aiming to boost passenger traffic and economic potential.

Railway and Road Project Dedications: PM Modi to dedicate railway and road projects worth Rs 1,477 crore and Rs 4,586 crore, respectively, enhancing transportation infrastructure in Tamil Nadu.

ISRO Project Launch: Launch of a significant INR 986 crore ISRO project, emphasizing the government’s commitment to space exploration and innovation.
