Following the tragic death of a Patiala girl allegedly after consuming a birthday cake ordered online, Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh has initiated an inquiry into the incident. Expressing deep sorrow over the girl’s demise, the minister has directed the food safety department to conduct a thorough investigation and test the cake for any potential contaminants.
“I am deeply saddened by the loss of the innocent girl, especially on her birthday. Children are invaluable, and any loss of life is heartbreaking. That’s why I’ve instructed the department to conduct a comprehensive investigation and submit the report promptly,” stated the health minister.
The cake, suspected to be the cause of the tragedy, will undergo testing at the state’s food safety lab and forensic lab to detect any presence of poison or harmful substances. The minister emphasized the need for answers, questioning why only one child succumbed to the cake while others who consumed it experienced no adverse effects.
The incident occurred during Manvi’s birthday celebration on March 24, where she consumed the cake before retiring to bed. Tragically, she later became unconscious and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Allegations surfaced that five other family members fell ill after consuming the cake.
Authorities have apprehended three individuals in connection with the case and filed charges under Section 304 of the IPC. Additionally, an FIR has been lodged against Kanha Bakery, the supplier of the cake. Investigations are ongoing to determine accountability in this heartbreaking incident.
