Punjab’s ‘Har Shukravar Dengue te Vaar’ Initiative: Students Spearhead Weekly Dengue Prevention Efforts

In a proactive move by the Punjab State Government, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has initiated the ‘Har Shukravar Dengue te Vaar’ campaign to combat the increased risk of dengue following floods. As part of this comprehensive anti-dengue initiative, students from Classes 8 to 12 are taking charge every Friday to inspect homes near their schools, contributing to the prevention of vector-borne diseases and the protection of lives.

Dengue Prevention Efforts

The Mid-Day Meal Society of Punjab has issued guidelines to school students, mandating their involvement in dengue prevention efforts. Starting December 1, students from Classes 8 to 12 will engage in house inspections near their schools every Friday, focusing on identifying and eliminating potential breeding sites for disease-carrying vectors. This crucial task takes place between 9 am and 10 am, where students will conduct thorough door-to-door checks.

Beyond inspections, students will play a pivotal role in raising awareness about dengue. Armed with knowledge, they will educate residents about the causes, symptoms, and warning signs of dengue, reinforcing the importance of early detection and preventive measures. These awareness activities will be conducted under the supervision of various authorities, including school principals, school management, Health Department officials, Civil Surgeons, senior medical officers, AMO, MPHS, and MPHW.

Dengue Prevention

To further strengthen the campaign, the order requires school heads to organize lectures on dengue and its symptoms. This holistic approach ensures that not only homes but also educational institutions actively contribute to the collective effort against the spread of dengue, ultimately safeguarding the well-being of the community.
