Rajasthan Congress Takes to the Streets Against IT Notices and Frozen Bank Accounts

Rajasthan : The political landscape in Rajasthan is set to witness heightened tensions as the state’s Congress unit gears up for widespread protests against what it deems as unjust actions by the Income Tax Department. Prompted by fresh notices and the freezing of the party’s bank accounts, the Rajasthan Congress has called for demonstrations across all district headquarters on Saturday.

Swarnim Chaturvedi, General Secretary and spokesperson of the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee, condemned the actions of the BJP-led central government, accusing it of a sustained assault on democratic principles. “The BJP-led central government is continuously attacking democracy and democratic systems in the country,” remarked Chaturvedi.

Expressing solidarity with the cause, district Congress committees are mobilizing public demonstrations across Rajasthan. Chaturvedi affirmed that all senior leaders, office bearers, and workers of the Congress will actively participate in these protests.

Highlighting the severity of the situation, Chaturvedi alleged a deliberate effort by the central government to stifle the Congress ahead of forthcoming elections. “As part of a well-planned conspiracy of the central government, the bank accounts of the Congress party were frozen and now undemocratic action is being taken against it by the Income Tax Department which has asked it to pay ₹1,823.08 crore,” he declared.

The Congress, grappling with the repercussions of frozen bank accounts and exorbitant tax demands, perceives these actions as politically motivated. The party’s spokesperson emphasized the magnitude of the financial burden imposed, asserting that such measures are intended to weaken the Congress’s electoral prospects.

The recent development follows the freezing of the party’s main bank accounts last month over an income tax demand of ₹210 crore. The Congress has vehemently criticized these actions, characterizing them as instances of “tax terrorism” orchestrated by the ruling BJP to undermine the opposition’s financial stability in the lead-up to the Lok Sabha polls .
