School teacher Arrested for Recording Women in Washroom at Nagpur

Nagpur : In a disturbing incident, a 37-year-old schoolteacher from Nagpur, Maharashtra, was arrested for allegedly filming women using the washroom at an industrial expo in the city. Mangesh Vinayakrao Khapre, a resident of Kasarpura in Nagpur, discreetly recorded videos on his mobile phone through a washroom window during the three-day industrial expo titled ‘Advantage Vidarbha’ at Nagpur University’s Ambazari campus.

Discovered and Reported by a Vigilant Woman

The accused, an art teacher at a prestigious private school, was enlisted to design the festival gate for the expo. A woman, who became aware of the illicit activity, promptly reported the incident to the organizers, leading to a police investigation. The incident took place during the concluding day of the expo on Monday.

Arrest and Investigation

Ambazari police station Inspector Vinayak Golhe and his team conducted a thorough investigation, scanning CCTV footage of the premises. The footage helped identify Khapre, who had been present on the campus for the past four days preparing for the event. He was arrested, and his mobile phone was seized.

History of Similar Offenses

Upon examining Khapre’s phone, authorities found videos of nearly a dozen women recorded over the previous three days. Shockingly, it was also revealed that he had a history of recording videos of women in public toilets, with approximately 30 such videos found on his phone. These recordings dated back to 2022. The accused allegedly deleted some of the clips, and authorities are considering the possibility of mental health issues.

Legal Proceedings and Bail

A case has been registered against Khapre under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology (IT) Act. The accused was produced in a local court, which granted him bail on Tuesday. The incident underscores the importance of vigilance and prompt reporting to ensure the safety and privacy of individuals in public spaces.
