Shimla : In a tragic incident on Tuesday morning, a landslide near Ashwani Khud on Junga road, on the outskirts of Shimla, claimed the lives of two labourers. Rakesh (31) and Rajesh (40), both hailing from Bihar, lost their lives in the unfortunate event that unfolded near a stone crusher.
According to the police report, the victims, along with other labourers, were sleeping in makeshift huts when the landslide struck. The makeshift dwellings, situated near the stone crusher, became the unfortunate site of the tragedy. While five labourers managed to narrowly escape, Rakesh and Rajesh were trapped under the debris.
Rescue teams swiftly responded to the scene, managing to recover the bodies of the deceased from the debris. The bodies of Rakesh and Rajesh have been sent for post-mortem examinations to ascertain the cause of death.
The landslide, occurring during the early hours, caught the sleeping labourers off guard. While some narrowly escaped the disaster, the families and colleagues of Rakesh and Rajesh now grapple with the profound loss.
Shimla SP Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi provided insights into the incident, highlighting that the tragedy unfolded near a stone crusher. The authorities are likely to investigate the circumstances leading to the landslide, aiming to prevent similar incidents in the future.
