Singer Anuradha Paudwal joins BJP in New Delhi ahead of Lok Sabha polls

New Delhi: On Saturday, Veteran singer Anuradha Paudwal joined the BJP in New Delhi ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. She is known for her hit songs in the 80s and 90s and devotional music. She said she was happy to join a government that had a "deep connection with Sanatan Dharma".

Singer Anuradha Paudwal joins BJP in New Delhi ahead of Lok Sabha polls

New Delhi: On Saturday, Veteran singer Anuradha Paudwal joined the BJP in New Delhi ahead of the Lok Sabha elections 2024. She is known for her hit songs in the 80s and 90s and devotional music.

She said she was happy to join a government that had a “deep connection with Sanatan Dharma”. The famous playback singer, who was conferred the Padma Shri, the country’s fourth-highest civilian award, joined the BJP in the presence of its senior leaders, including national general secretary Arun Singh and chief spokesperson Anil Baluni.

Anuradha Paudwal addressing a press conference and said, “I am happy that I am joining the government which has a deep connection with Sanatan (Dharma). It is my good fortune that I am joining the BJP today.”

Meanwhile, a Congress MP from Alwar, Karan Singh Yadav, also joined the BJP in Jaipur today. Along with him, several other Congress leaders also joined the saffron party. Paudwal has sung thousands of songs and hundreds of bhajans in an array of languages.

Born in Karwar, Karnataka, Paudwal made her singing debut at the age of 19 with ‘Omkaram Bindu Samyuktam’ from the hit film ‘Abhimaan’. The song was composed by SD Burman, with whom he worked many times. Paudwal made his mark in Bollywood in 1983 with his superhit song “Tu Mera Hero Hai” in the film Hero.

Three years later she won his first of four Filmfare Awards. Her peak came in the 1990s, when he enthralled music lovers with his soundtracks in Aashiqui, Sadak and Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahi. In the 2000s he focused more on devotional songs. She is also known for her philanthropic work.

In 2016, Paudwal founded Suryodaya Foundation, which provides health care support for those in need. For her work she was given the Mother Teresa Award in 2011. In 2017 she was awarded the Padma Shri.
