In a remarkable feat, Indore has once again secured the coveted title of the ‘Cleanest City’ in India for the seventh consecutive year, according to the results of the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2023. The announcement was made during an event held in the presence of President Droupadi Murmu, where Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and other dignitaries were in attendance.
In the ‘best-performing states’ category, Maharashtra clinched the top position, showcasing its commitment to cleanliness. The states of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh secured the second and third spots, respectively.
Indore’s remarkable achievement marks its seventh consecutive win, solidifying its reputation as the cleanest city in the country. The city’s sustained efforts in maintaining cleanliness have set a benchmark for urban areas across India.
Maharashtra’s Sasvad emerged as the cleanest city among those with a population of less than 1 lakh. Chhattisgarh’s Patan and Lonavala in Maharashtra secured the second and third positions in this category, highlighting the commitment of smaller cities towards cleanliness.
Varanasi was recognized as the best and cleanest Ganga town, with Prayagraj following closely. The Mhow Cantonment Board in Madhya Pradesh achieved the top rank in the category of cleanest cantonment boards.
The Swachh Survekshan 2023 witnessed an impressive participation of 4,447 urban local bodies, making it the world’s largest cleanliness survey. With a staggering 12 core citizen responses received, the survey reflects the government’s dedication to promoting cleanliness and hygiene across the nation.
